Philosophy
It is interesting to note that Schopenhauer is not widely discussed in academia during this time. Metaphysics has taken a 'back seat' in the realm of scholastic thinking due to focuses on science and psychology. This might have happened because of Immanuel Kant's critique on metaphysics in his analysis of reality. However, Schopenhauer gave an answer to Kant's philosophy, and that did little to spark more conversation on that topic. Even though the answer Schopenhauer gave was grim, it was still an answer. Therefore, instead of being "so sure" about the facts of existence as psychology and other sciences try to explain, think about arguments that are not as "concrete" and then you'll find your answer.

certain things in the world are inexplainable, illogical and determined, but by thinking that from the very beginning, i am afraid we may be choosing an easy way out. without trying, doing the best we can, nothing would become possible. there are opportunities we can take and succeed all the time. the difference is that some people would take it and make it come true, but others would let it go... even though we are determined to a certain degree, alot of the time we still have the ability to choose, and make things better. i would regret all my life if i didnt try my best just because i just wasn't supposed to (destined to) do something. i dont care if shopenhauer would call me i am ignorant, but certain things in life, you can change by trying and believing in yourself because i know it happened to me! :)
That was well said Tomoko and a lot of that is true, but I was trying to convey the idea that the arts aren't as important as they used to be, which is bad and at the same time, wrong.
